I am looking at a pair of older OB 2524 inverters for system expansion. In discussions with the seller he mentioned that they might NOT be usable as, as far as he remembers, they, GVFX, being grid tie models, did (will) not work with generators to charge batteries. ???
I followed the discussion about Generator Support over on the NAWS forum, and remember that there are several uses of GVFX models that did not mention having any problems AFAICR....
Does anyone that uses a GVFX with an INVERTER GENERATOR and have issues with the charging circuitry?
GVFX AC input frequency range is 58-62Hz. Tight! Either a "real" 1800 RPM well regulated genset is needed or an Inverter Genset. Inverter genny's typically will hold the frequency very tight to 60Hz so that's usually the only "easy" choice with the GVFX series.
My non inverter gensets, a 5KW at 500 Lb's and a 12.5KW at about 800 Lb's have no problem holding a tight frequency. :)
The VFX series has an input frequency range of around 55-65Hz so they can handle even the cheap box store genny's.
I believe you can replace the control board for a few hundred $ and convert them to VFX
