Title: automatic increase charging current
Post by: binkino on July 03, 2015, 06:12:33 AM
Hey,

I am asking me, how to set this up, that the Classic Lite will increase the output amps higher then the current limit, when the WBJr meassures x-amps of load.

I have set to 25 Amps current limit (thats max. charging amps for my batteries). **
Now if I switch on my AC, I have more then 25 Amps load. And now there is no charging energy left for  the batteries.
But the PV could give more energy. I must manually change (increase ) the current limit, so all energy will be used. For charging and the load.

This is not really a great solution ... ;)
the WB is great, now I can see more details, that is all fine!
But why does the WBJr not meassure the current limit on the WB and outputs more amps?
Are there settings for this?

thanks

** Or does the Midnite know how much Amps maximum for charging, while set the capacity of 230 Ah ?

Hi binkino,

This function,  or a similar one that would Limit the battery Charge current to a value that the user sets has NOT yet been implemented.

The Thread in the following Link has a bit of discussion about this unimplemented function,  and Reply #9 has a statement from boB:

The Classic cannot know what limit your batteries need,  until the user is able to enter that data whenever it is that this new function happens to gets implemented.

The MidNite Design teams are very busy working on new products,  like a much hoped-for MidNite Inverter,  etc.

Hi VIC,
thanks :)
I just also have found this thread http://midnitesolar.com/Forum/index.php?topic=1529.0
they also ask for this function

would be great if they can implement it.
here in germany we have best temperatures now :D it is like in holidays haha
so we need the AC to get not meldet at home ;)

I am just thinking about a "workaround" --- I have 3 strings from PV,
but switching high voltage under current load is very hard,
My idea now was, to disconnect one string, if the charging amp is higher then 25 apms and there is no load that needs these amps;
and switch back, if more energy is needed (load, charging is under 20 Amps back...)

The Classic current limit itself is intended to limit current through its output wire so that if you
are using smaller wire and circuit breaker than the Classic can put out, it will not trip off.

Yes, the maximum current into the battery itself  as seen by the WB Jr. still needs to
be done.  That feature is going to be a while longer.  Sorry about that.  I wish
it could be real soon but unfortunately, it will have to wait.
