Title: Looking for Fine strand tinned 10 AWG WIRE
Post by: CDN-VT on July 12, 2015, 09:31:19 PM
Its 35 strand 10 AWG and tinned .
This is one that I really think the price of a top cable that if a MC4 leaks & you do get a bad resistance area , the copper is not green all but 3 feet / 1 meter . I have found that the tinned section keeps the bad damaged spot / area less than a ft/ 10CM in length MAX , while the coarse just copper is green or black .. AND this crimps so nice with the real crimpers , while the 19 & 7 strand are always crooked or mangled looking . So here is the wire im looking for in fine 37 strand tinned 10 AWG PV from Kris-tech . My last roll purchase was in 2000 or so. What I find strange is the suppliers I have asked say they never made/had/heard of it , but there are the un-molested / shopped of the real deal ..

Any one have a lead / link for this style of wire ?
Also I should post the interconnects I use from this to awg 10 bare copper in the dry conduit boxes.

THanks VT
Only .5 to get this posted up ..

Edit recounted it 37 strand

Most marine supply (boating) shops use the tinned wire.  You may have to special order the fine stranded version.

marine supply (boating) and PV
I can't see it , Since I do own & sail a vessel !!

Thanks Mike , you have not seen this type of wire ?

Everett WA is one of the major ports with military all over , they are in the suffering mode right now.
I don't see them in the same area as PV , Yes in Through hulls of stainless or stuffing boxes ,DC enclosed wire , but PV , Nada.

I have called Kris-tech , and got a call finally got a call back from a sales lady , Im glad I did get through to the correct section .

The datasheet shows that PV wire is normally 7 strands, but extra flexible PV wire with 37 strands is available.
You can order Kris Tech wire from Titan Wire and Cable (http://www.titanwnc.com).

Kento
Great Info , called & spoke with a gent that sent me the spec sheet & also said many old time installer companys are only using this style of tinned cable/wire due to no wicking of corrosion and for longevity.
I have had the Odd bad joint / connection , found it & the repair is not that hard on the tinned Wire . With the 7 , 9 or 19 strand just copper the wick or green/black corrosion is almost the length of the cable , so this is why He was saying many are using Leoni Studer cabling .
The Kris-Tech gent never got back to me , so I did round up a NY # so I'll call that next week.

I don't know if they have the specific cable you are looking for but Titan Wire and Cable (http://www.titanwnc.com/) also shows Leoni Studer on their line card. If you can't find what you are looking for from a local source, give Titan a call.

Thanks , But since I got a real response & the gent has forwarded me a sample , I'll wait till I get it & work as long as I can with this gent .
Price is the least on real projects ,for secondary stuff. Contollers are $$$, Batterys $$$$, Inverters /Panels $$$$$
wire & fittings $ , That is poor planning !!

I would like to post the full manual / working with this cable so all may review the difference ..

West Marine
http://www.westmarine.com/buy/ancor--primary-wire-10-gauge-by-the-foot--P009_274_001_007
Marine-grade wire from Ancor is rated for oily and wet environments because its jacket is impervious to those conditions. Each strand has a tin coating for extra corrosion resistance (note the “silver” look when you strip it).
Vibration is always present on a boat, and will quickly fatigue and crack coarsely stranded wire. Ancor wire is Type 3 stranded, meaning that is has 5-10 times more copper strands than Type 2 wire, making it more flexible and fatigue resistant. They are constructed with premium vinyl insulation that is rated at 600 volts, 221°F (105°C) dry and 167°F (75°C) wet. It is also Marine UL-listed, and meets the highest ABYC standards for AC and DC use.

About 75¢ per foot.   or

Don't use primary wire to wire your PV array. The NEC only allows certain types of wire to be used for exposed PV module wiring. It has to be listed as PV wire or listed as sunlight resistant USE wire.

Kento , The titan Gent came thru with a total professional as it should be , I will post all the info & pictures , He sent a sample ,plus +++, and he has the correct thinking as I have when it comes to wicking / wickage .
Im just guessing 5' wire , a stress-relief  and one MC 4 style male / female with crimps (same as I use) as his samples , he has my business, know's his Shite.
This gent is a pro , speaks the lingo . So who else would like to buy some & then Im sure with my account we can get a fair price , way less than .50/ft for the real PV full jacketed stuff . ( I did call Sweden(leaders of this now )  , but if we have a pro here , I'll use them )

& Pm's always welcome , but this will happen quick
edit add pix  , last one is the jacket removed & one strand of 40 I counted , much finer than the kris-tech and more jacket .

Edit Add .
Since no reply on anyone else who wanted some I purchased a bunch just for my usage . All info above so you may contact them yourself.
