So I got my classic in the mail the other day Hooray.
I took the front off and noticed that the Fet Bar Had a few cracks in the black coating which going by the sticker on the 3 RJ11 ports was said to be normal.
So I'm just wondering what is the actual makeup of the Fet Bar. I assume it's just a solid metal piece with a plastic covering to insulate it from the PCB circuits on the control board.
Another thing I noticed that there was a purple layer of coating on the top of the ICs and other SMD component tops on the control board and am wondering what was the purple substance and what's it's purpose?

... purple layer of coating ....
probably a conformal coating on circuit board, moisture etc protection :D

Yes the fet bar is aluminum with a very hard/brittle plastic insulator that will crack on the top side when tightened, this is fine. The purplish substance (As DGD pointed out) is conformal coating
Yes, conformal coating on the PCB...
If you hold a black-light over the PCB, you can see where the coating is painted.
