Tecnojunkies:
Is it possible for a Kid controller to diversion output more power than is coming in input of this Kid?
Situation: Batteries 2 banks L-16 @ 24v 400a.h. Each
All controllers outputs feed in parallel to both banks
Classic with 1980 watts in max charge rate 68 amps at 28.8
Kid 1 With 495 watts in max charge rate 17 amps.
Kid 2 with 495 watts in max charge rate 17 amps
Kids set diversion from battery
Diversion load dual element water heater with one element connected to each kid at 632 watts per element
Can the Kid divert the excess power generated by the Classic?
Worst case 495 watts in from solar and 632 watts diverted from battery
I would rather not lose Whizbang on Classic using a SSR

Td,
Why dont you just try it and see what happens?
AFAIK the load maximum is 30A but it seems you are wanting the load diversion to come from the battery while the PV input is charging the battery or in effect a portion of load current from both battery and PV.
I think this looks unlikely but I'd wire it up and see what happens. The worst scenario is that just the power produced by the KID is diverted to the load
There are some interesting ideas/solutions to water heating in the RPi and Arduino postings

I have most of the parts and am going to do it somehow. I have been using a single element at 600 watts hooked to one kid and have been doing hot water that way but a new element has come on the US market that has two 632 watt elements in one assembly, it has separate terminals for each element so if fits the needs of the Kid, it meters the negative lead so they must be separate and each half of the element draws 22.5 amps for the 632 watt unit . The kid handles this really easy, and two kid's ,each driving one half of the element gives me 1264 watts water heater in 10 gallon tank.
I have been living with just 600 watts water heater, but the kid was over paneled at 1020 watts and set to a charge limit of 21 amps , it's twin had a 1020 watt array , no diversion and 30 amp charge limit
I am changing my whole panel setup as I have bought a used array of nice panels complete with racking so now my Classic will be the main controller with the Kid's on smaller arrays. I have a Trace C-40 which I might use for this, don't know but the kids would be a nicer setup, I can always move panel strings from one controller to the other.
