Title: MNGP Remove and Relocate
Post by: Ox on November 29, 2015, 09:26:45 PM
Hello All,
Newb to the forum and first-time poster.
I'll be getting a Classic 150 to manage the PV array on my sailboat.
Is it possible to remove and relocate the MNGP from the Classic?
I'd like to tuck away the 150 somewhere and just have the MNGP at my nav station.
I've searched the MidNite Solar Classic forums for MNGP but didn't find an answer.
Hoping to not have to buy an additional MNGP remote unit.
Many thanks in advance.

Hi Ox,

Welcome to the Forum.

YES,  you can relocate the MNGP,  by replacing the standard cable,  with one of the appropriate length for you application.

Believe that the distance limit approaches about 200 feet.   Some resellers offer a dummy panel to place on the Classic,  IIRC.

This is one of the many benefits of using a Classic.   Vic

yes - I found an old telephone cable that had the 6 pin connector - I think that is what is on it. It is about 30 feet long . Was nice to bring the display from the frozen shed into the warm inside !  I just plugged the small hole in the case with something to keep out bugs and critters.  Remember to put the original small cable for the MNGP inside the Classic case so you can find it again if needed - so you don't have to search for it like I did !

As Vic said, you can get a dummy MNGP to fill the opening when you remove the real MNGP. I did exactly what you're looking to do and mounted the MNGP by our nav station while the Classic is in one of the lockers near the batteries. Works great!

6 wire RJ11 cables  give you all the functionality. IIRC 4 wire cables will also work but you lose 2 of the LED indicators.

That is correct, 4 wires works you lose 2 LED's.
