Title: Aux waste not on classic lite without PV?
Post by: SolarMusher on December 15, 2015, 11:45:12 AM
Hi,
I'm thinking of buying a classic lite to add to my system but would only like to install more PV capacity later next summer on this Lite.
Actually, my water heater is on Aux1 and WBjr on aux2, and as you know aux1 is not the best way to divert something but I would like to keep my WBjr at work.
If I was to add a lite in follow me, will the aux outputs on the lite work with no PV input on it for a few monthes?
Will the follow me mode be ok to tell it to activate aux2 waste not?
Any idea?

Hi Erik,

AFAIK  that should be ok since the diversion is triggered on battery voltage and does not depend on there being solar power input.
However, the latest firmware release, we are told, will place the Classic in Resting state after not detecting input for a while. Not sure if this will affect the diversion (waste not) mode or follow-me logic

Hi David,
If that doesn't work, maybe another option would be to use Classic #1 aux2 for waste not and connect WBjr on Classic lite #2 (no input) to end absorb. "Whoever goes to Float first for instance will simply tell everyone else it is time to go to float.", so, if I understand the follow-me logic correctly and if that also includes float following end absorb from a WBjr, it should work no matter if there's an input or not on Classic lite #2.
What do you think of that? Maybe Ryan or boB could confirm.

Erik, the logic seems sound, the Lite would have the WBjr sense lead connected to it,  it would sense when the End Amps target is met and if in ''Follow Me'' mode it will send a/the signal to the other Classic (non Lite) and the charge should be suspended... and move  to FLOAT...

Exactly Eric, it seems logical, but what I'm not very sure is how the follow-me loop really work. Does the signal absolutely need to come from Classic #1 or could it come from any classic in the loop, no matter where it is phisically in this loop?

IIRC it can come from any unit in the loop and the instruction 'cascades' around the loop (at least?) 3 x or so until all are in agreement...
so if one unit reaches the target , no matter which target , it initiates the 'follow me'... think about the slight variances of voltage that each unit might have. Measurements are probably in the 0.0x range or 0.00x, and none would be exactly the same, but if only shown on the screen in, say, 0.x format it seems easy to see a potential for variance...

Great to know that, I think I'm going to order one and then learn more about follow-me options.
Thanks Eric and David

Searched for  ''follow me''  by boB got this

post 126  http://kb1uas.com/mnsforum/index.php?topic=1413.msg12187#msg12187

searching just for ''Follow me'' WBjr , ( no user ) is productive too, 30 hits
