Title: Programming a lite with MNGP
Post by: SolarMusher on December 22, 2015, 04:04:40 PM
Hi all,
New to the Lite party and have a few questions:
If I had to take off the MNGP display on my standard Classic to update/program a new Classic lite, will the standard Classic recall all my previous settings when I will have to re-install the display on it?
What's the easier way to program a lite (follow me): Loc App, MNGP networked, MNGP on lite?
Any experiments appreciated,
Erik

Erik,

Yes you can plug/unplug the MNGP between Classics and they will be ok, not forgetting their setup info.

You can use the MNGP to monitor and setup several Classics without removing it.
Serial wire, as in follow me wiring, giving each a different address, default is 10, so make second 11
Third 12 etc.
Then just use the left and up down arrows to move between addresses, ie hold down left arrow then touch up or down arrow.
The second classic will show on the MNGP even though the MNGP is still physically on the first classic.

I haven't done this for a long time but AFAIK it should still work unless MN have disabled it.
You might not need the follow-me loop back wire either, just one rj11 cable from serial 2 on first classic (MNGP is plugged in serial 1), address10, to serial 1 on second classic at address 11.

Hey David, thanks for helping a newby  :P!
Ok, so for the first time with MNGP on lite:
1) update to same FW
2) VMM
3) Custom switches
4) change address to 11
5) Set the Lite to what you need and follow-me, etc...
6) Re-install Lite display

With MNGP re-installed on regular Classic 10 networked:
1) Set it for follow-me, etc...
2) Check Lite settings on 11 and change what you want.
Did I get it right?

Erik,
Yes, I think thats right.
Not sure if you need to enable follow-me, IIRC you can just use one rj11 cable from first CL serial 2 to second CL serial 1.
Maybe someone from MN can confirm this.
