Title: Battery water saver caps
Post by: russ_drinkwater on January 12, 2016, 09:06:17 PM
Has anyone had any experience with aftermarket battery caps to help reduce the fluid loss from batteries?
If so what brands and availability please!

Hi Russ,

I have used the standard height Water Miser caps on one battery bank,  and they have not resulted in any water consumption reduction,  at all whatsoever.

They can tend to get plugged up,  and cause some pressurization of some cells.

IMO,   Water Misers are of NO benefit at all whatsoever.

They do tend to weep more electrolyte onto the tops of that batteries than do the standard bayonet caps.

Just my experience with Water Misers.   FWIW,    Vic

Ditto to Vic's comments. The Water Miser caps are of no value what so ever.

I removed the set I had and installed a Flow-Rite  watering system that fills each cell to the correct level. Caps have a water level indicater and a hole with rubber cap for tacking SG readings with a hydrometer.

Ditto Vic and Resthome,

I have water savers on my interstate set and standard caps on my Surette's and see no difference in water use, vents are a bit small and do plug up.

Ok, thanks for the replies guys!
I will skip them as they are expensive anyways.
Always pays to ask! :0)
