A Magnum inverter has been offered to me but I am not familiar with that particular model.
It is a MS4024AE. not PAE. 120/240 volt split phase unit. I really want the MS4024 RE or Outback's VFXR 4024. HYBIRD units as I often have a situation where I would use a limited amount of utility or generator but have loads which would need or like a load assist.
At $500 it seems to be too good a deal to be real, seller seems honest as he has admitted a problem in that the fan runs all the time. He swapped the unit out for a newer model. I'm not worried about the thermal sensor, but with long term compatibility.
I'd love to wait for the midnite inverter but it seems that it will be higher end unit than I need.
I am 120 volt only with the exception of my arc welder which I use my Onan 6.5 kW. 120/240 gen,
It switches from 120 volt 60 amps to 120/240 split phase 30 amps / leg. (The gen)
My small gen is an Onan Emerald 4 120 volt only 4.0 kW.
Anybody with Magnum experience ?

Well thats an old model so take that for what it is worth. I think it is a little better than 50% off new cost so?
I will say we will have a smaller inverter similar to the Magnum also but it will be a while still so.

Thanks for reply, the Magnums at NAWS are about $1800 but this is a discontinued model possibly replaced by the PAE model, so that is about 1/3 retail, it's built in 4th quarter 98 so it's out of warranty. I am going to see it in a few and probably buy it. I read the seller as honest so I will chance it. He lives in an apartment in the city but has a cabin in the sierras so I won't be able to test.

As the economic lifetime of inverters is around ten years (electrolytics) then your chancing money on that one arent you?
Not sure about that, I've been using the first off grid inverter made in USA, the Dynamote Brutus,
They work great and I will be keeping them. They have an overload capability that no one has surpassed......11,600 surge on a 3200 watt inverter. I am used to opening things up and modifying them to suit my needs. I am still using Carver amps that were made when Robin was there, anyway this one has had little use as it was installed in a vacation cabin in the Sierra's and used several weekends a year. It looks mint as new, but I will be in there as usual poking around. It was replaced with a new one only because the fan does not shut off.
