Title: Dual outback 3648 on two midnite epanels
Post by: EW Zuber on January 28, 2016, 03:47:16 AM
I am currently installing a dual 120VAC outback system on two midnite epanels. Does Midnite supply a wiring diagram for this config?

Hi EW,

I am not an expert on e-panels.

MN has great docs.  Here is the Manual on an OB e-panel with the 250 A Inverter breaker,  for example.  The 3648s might be happy with a 175 A breaker,  but look around page 15 for a nice color schematic diagram:

Just go to midnitesolar >Products >epanel >Outback ...   etc

EDIT:  There are probably a few little details that need to be figured out with Dual e-panels,  like ganged Bypass Breakers,  etc,  and a quick scan of the above manual did not seem to touch on things like this   ...

Thanks but I have seen this one. Looks like I will likely have to get bigger breakers for the transfer switch so both inverters can be switched at the same time. Fortunately this is my second two inverter system so I have a decent idea of what is needed because it looks like for the most part I am on my own with this one.

I think this is what you are after or at least a part of it

So it sounds like you want to parallel two 3600 watt 120vac inverters for 7200 watts at 120vac right?

The standard Bypass is good for 50 or 60 amps or around 6-7000 watts. So what you are looking to do is make a 100 amp bypass at 120vac right?

What I would do is use this:
http://www.midnitesolar.com/productPhoto.php?product_ID=397&productCatName=Accessories&productCat_ID=5&sortOrder=24&act=p (http://www.midnitesolar.com/productPhoto.php?product_ID=397&productCatName=Accessories&productCat_ID=5&sortOrder=24&act=p)

but instead of wiring it as 240 simply use one pole for each inverter. That way you have a 100 amp bypass assembly. The bottom two poles are the AC in. So this gives you 2 poles for AC out, 2 poles for AC in and 2 poles for bypass

Ryan, do you have some pics of the Epanel that bypass is to mount on ...
I just looked at the file pics and I do not see how it lines up with the standard OB Epanel.. And I don't see how it would fit my OB Epanels

tks.
