Title: Graphic Display Question? (MNGP )
Post by: sigp2101 on April 26, 2016, 01:34:12 PM
Does The Classic 150 GUI provide monitoring of battery bank state of charge or I have to get separate voltmeter for that purpose?

Thanks!

You need a Shunt and the WBjr to get SoC if you do not have an E-Panel already.

What is E-Panel, MNGP? I do have MNGP, classic came with it. So if that is what you are referring to, is it enough to monitor SOC%?

Thanks!

An E-Panel is a pre-wired box that MidNite makes, and it contains a shunt that you would use with the WBjr to get and exact reading on the amps put back into your battery...

e-Panel http://www.midnitesolar.com/productPhoto.php?product_ID=53&productCatName=E-Panel%20-%20Outback&productCat_ID=1&sortOrder=10&act=p

WBjr    http://www.midnitesolar.com/productPhoto.php?product_ID=53&productCatName=E-Panel%20-%20Outback&productCat_ID=1&sortOrder=10&act=p

there are some videos and reading with the WBjr link, recommended

Why would I use all that expensive equipment when simple
   MNBCM can serve same purpose?

You don't need to have an E-panel, it just simplifies the wiring a LOT, I have one in operation and a second one to install....  You only need the Shunt and the WBjr to get a determination of the  SoC %... and it will show on the MNGP or the MN Local APP.... I don't know about the MyMidnite site as I can not connect to the site from my cabin...

The MNBCM is an estimate, the WBjr knows exactly what has come out and gone back into your battery

MNBCM is an guesstimate, but I use them for quick reference on many systems.

Great product

OK, so WBJR & Shunt is the answer. Let me educate myself on it.

Thanks all!

The shunt goes on negative cable to battery . So on the battery side of the shunt there is only one connection - the one going to the battery.  That means that all current going to or from the battery has to go through that shunt. The Whizbang can determine exactly what is going to or from the battery .

For example - on a sunny day the MNGP display on your Classic shows it is  charging 50 amps. Without the Whizbang you don't know how many of those 50 amps are going to the battery and how many are going to a load like an inverter .  With the Whizbang it will show you the system amps - so in the above case if your inverter was using 40 amps you would be able to know that only 10 amps is going to the battery. And that is what is needed to calculate the SOC number too.

The shunt and Whizbang are very good investments that you could only reproduce by spending at least a couple hundred dollars on a meter like the Trimetric . But using the Whizbang integrated into the controls with the Classic gives you a lot of other monitoring and control options with the aux contacts also.  Another example is being able to use ending amps to stop absorb cycle and go to float.

Great Info Larry for the question asked .
I use shunts & WBjr on most setups .
Tri-shunts on one .

Thanks for that, now I know more than ever. If only could be that simple to acquire these components up here in Canada.

I'm also a Rolls battery dealer if you need batteries to your door.

Which wall? This wall is only in your head and I’m sorry that you can have such a bad feeling with Qc and eastern Canada just because French language is still spoken here.
To me, Amazon/Ebay is mostly an unfair way of doing business because it’s impossible for Canadian companies to compete with the same prices than US companies.
You’d better wondering why Canadian companies are uncommon on Ebay/Amazon and how/why US companies are able to sell at lower prices than Canadian.
Anyway, I’m not from Qc and there are a lot of things that doesn’t have sense to me here and there (like your post).
Did you know that the batteries you’re using were discovered by French people? You know those who are speaking French and eat frogs… :P
Have a nice day,
Erik

Eric , It was a friggin JOKE as like no English signs allowed or they maybe only this big etc..
SAME as the Wall , Quebec has tried to separate from Canada since ?? Yanks don't want all the special pandering to be bothered ,& since you said "from Qc to BC." meaning to me , Nova-Scotia & PEI , Labrador,New Brunswick & Newfoundland  are SOL (Merde outta chance) from buying from you ;) ..

Don't worry , my taxes pay for French books in all courts & Library etc across Canada..
Where I live English , Asian , Persian ,Hindi/Punjab ,Spanish & then french .

I lived in Qc in 1967 , been back thrice !

It was a JAMB -JOKE !! You do know the eastern Provence's ? I was in all of them  in 2008 working & meeting voices I have spoke  with for years.

VT
VT,
From coast to coast would have been a better wording, sorry for that.
If Qc had to separate from Canada I think that I will have to move a bit if not too old. I came from Europe to Canada 25 years ago and never understood where they really wanted to go with that kind of concept.
Anyway, presently it's not in the air. Aren't we Liberal  ;D!

Hello to all:-)  I hope I'm posting this in the right topic.
I have recently installed two classic 150s in follow me.
I was wondering if I could have a separate mngp on upper level of my home without removing any mngp from the controllers in the garage. I am hoping with one mngp to be able to monitor both charge controllers upstairs and still retain each classic with its own mngp. Is this possible?

I don't use follow me mode - but why couldn't you leave one MNGP downstairs at the controllers and take the other one upstairs ?
Another option is to get an inexpensive Android tablet and use Grahams excellent Classic App to display what is going on. Of course that means both of those Classics would have to be plugged into network with wireless so the app could find them wireless.

Hello :-)
I would like to have side by side comparisons live so I can  see what's goin on.
Looks a little goofy too with only one display.
I'm trying to post pics- haven't figured it out yet.... sigh
I have both apps-Love em!!
Can anyone advise me on how to put some pics. up so you could see what I'm talking about?
Thank you,
George:-)

photos on the forum here ?
Bottom of the reply  post is Attachments and other options - click on that and add photo file.
If the photo file is too big it won't work - so in that case make it smaller - I use Irfanview and resize or change camera setting to lower resolution.

Have you read the thread on Garhams App lately?  Binkino posted a discussion about a similar situation for monitoring 2  Classics .... he found he had to go back to a nearlier version of the App as the latest version with Live Chart will not work as he wants ...
