Title: Voltage input limit for Classic 200?
Post by: charlespyoung on December 31, 2016, 11:05:36 AM
I am considering upping the voltage from the array into the Classic 200 from 3 strings of 4 modules at 120V to 2 strings of 6 modules at 180V. Is that too much voltage? This is in Haiti so temps run from 70-90ºF.

Hi Charles,

Have you run your proposed configuration on the MidNite Classic String Sizer (?):

OK,  Charles.   Did data from the String Sizer answer your questions?

I would also ask what is the battery voltage of the system ?
A huge step down will make the classic work harder .

Why is it you want to up the panel voltage ?

System battery voltage is 48V. We have 2 strings of 8 Rolls S-550's. That is why I posted this to the forum because I know I am in the upper limits of the CC and needing some additional input. I can go with 4 module PV circuits to be safer.

Well that will be warm as with your Area for the classic to work 180 Vdc at  3 times the 60 Vdc the Cells need .
I would check the classic MNGP under temps & see what is NOW & after .. Voltage wise your good , but heat value is what would concern me.
