Hi, I have an Air-X wind generator set to float voltage of 27 volts. It doesn't run much, maybe on a windy night. I would like to connect it to the Classic on the PV input (isolate the PV panels). Does the Classic regulate a wind generator when set to wind or do I still need to use the aux and a dump load? Both my auxiliaries are in use. Eventually I would like to set my wind generator to max voltage which means lowering it and turn the screw and making it the primary charger at night. It would be nice for the classic to change to wind when in resting mode.
I have aux 1 operating a SSR to heat the water using waste not hi. I could use this signal to dump to a resister. I could do this manually each night when I change the classic from solar to wind and switch inputs from solar to wind.
Cheers,
The Classic will NOT work correctly with a turbine without some form of clipper or other method to keep a load on the turbine.
Imagine your batteries being full and a big wind event happens. The Classic will essentially disconnect the turbine when it decides the batteries are full and it will freewheel to destruction, after it blows up The Classic from over voltage of course.
Its been awhile since I used a Classic with a turbine but that is how it was then.
You can activate a dump load or brake switch with The Classic's Aux out.
So, you need some form of control on the turbine in this situation
Thanks, now that I know I still need a dump load with the Classic I have drawing up a circuit that should work (attached).
Just one question, will the waste not hi work the same and regulate the charging of the batteries in the wind mode?
Thanks,
