I want to update the firmware on my two Classic 150 controllers. The directions refer to an UBB cable that came with the controller, but it's MIA.
What kind of cable goes into the Classic. Is it a "mini", or something unique? It definitely is not a printer cable or a "micro".
IIRC it is a standard USB to a mini B
there is a pic a few pages down in this link https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USB
hth
Yeah it is the mini usb .

Sorry we obviously did not update the manual when we decided to stop sending out cables.
You will get a chance to use it for adding voice very soon. It takes a very long time to download voice. I am not sure how this will go. We will probably offer to swap MNGP's for a nominal fee too.

Hum. Maybe we need an option to update with or without voice. Otherwise it would seem like every firmware update in the future would be faced with this issue.
I Agree. I would forgo voice if the time is too long, since I am on Sat Net and not really sure of what the effect of a looooong download might be...
Robin, got a video of how the final VOICE product works/sounds?
Thanks for the info that is a mini-B. I should still have one of those at my other house, unless SWMBO cleaned up my mancave.
The Wikipedia article claims thats the mini-B is deprecated, meaning the cables may become extinct. While there are still quite a few on Amazon, but you might want to make an engineering change to change the connector to micro USB. I haven't seen a device using mini-B in many years (like 10), except for these Classics.
From a PR perspective, using such an old connector makes your product sound reaaaaally antique. Well, at least you are not using a 9 pin serial connection, like my old Outback.
BTW, what is "Voice" that has been mentioned? Why would I want it?
My knee jerk reaction would be very loud #%^&@ "Voice" against, but maybe I am a troglodyte.

Frankly, I am not sure exactly what it is for or the purpose.
In general, I am not in favor of equipment that talks. ;D
My computer, phone, tablet and car all try to tell me what to do. ::)
Just hope they don't get into the cycle my Iphone is in with Apple downloading massive files to "update" without asking and playing fast and loose with my settings.
Apparently they do not understand the concept of a "Patch".
Anyway, more info on "voice" would be appreciated.

As long as I have vision working, I can read the screens. Voice adds what? Can it even be heard over the fans ?
As long as there is FW w/o voice, I'll be happy, if it's forced on me, fie on you.
Lest we get our our pitch forks, there is no intention to force Voice updates on the masses. I was speaking with Robin about it this morning and he fully understands that a large portion of our customer base does not have the ability(or some the want) to download a file the size of this update. The latest firmware will continue to be available on the website with a separate file option for voice.
The voice update will give you audio feedback about the state of your system. You will have options on the level/frequency of audio notifications your Classic provides. Your Classic will still function fully, as always, even if you choose not to download the voice option.

Robin ,
When will this new firmware be available - or is it ready enough now for some of us guinea pigs to try out ?
If so post a copy of the new firmware on here or somewhere on the forums so we can load it up .
