Title: Help w string sizing and Classic200
Post by: Volvo Farmer on November 26, 2011, 08:41:34 PM
I found 4 really cheap Chinese panels that have almost identical specs to my existing BP panels so pulled the trigger. Just out of curiosity,  I got a price for a Classic200 while I was there and it was so good, I just had to pick one up.

Anyway, Here's what I want to do. I have crudely crunched the numbers and they seem to work.
8x BP SX170
Voc 44.2, Vmp 35.4, Imp 4.8

4x Suntech STP170S
Voc 43.8, Vmp 35.2, Imp 4.8

I want to run 4x series by 3x parallel into 24V batteries. It gets 10 below F here but rarely.  I did the math for my old MX60 and it wasn't going to fly. Can someone up there run the figures on this and tell me if I can keep the smoke in the Classic with this setup?

Hey Volvo !!

Well, 170W * 12 modules (2040W) at Vmpp of 140 Volts will  ~JUST~ fit on a 200 with a 24V battery.

With nameplate ratings of course, IF it really did 2040  Watts, it would be maxed out, but you
usually don't quite expect nameplate ratings most of the time.

Middle graph and the red line, 72A  2066W for what you're talking about I think.

Such a deal !!
