Title: Will 110V charger drain BB if left attached to the BB but not to the 110V outlet
Post by: sigp2101 on October 30, 2019, 01:05:52 PM
I have Schumacher 36V charger that I want to permanently attach to my BB and run power supply cord to the other side of the basement wall where I am about to create generator hook up for it.
Now leaving all components connected except gen. will that potentially drain my BB since it will be permanently attached to one of the coils inside charger?
Does any one have something similar to be able to provide answer.

Thanks!

If it is only keeping the charger's capacitors charged I wouldn't think it would discharge the batteries.

If you have an ammeter,  you could measure the current and if it goes to zero, then it isn't drawing any current or power.

If the charger's display (if it has one) stays on or a light lights up when unplugged from the AC input, then it is definitely drawing some power and might discharge the bank.

Thanks, I will check with amp meter for parasitic draw. That should establish the fact.
