hello
i like to buy a classic and don.t know which one i need
my plan is to use it for a hugh piggott 1800 design 12 volt wind turbine.
i have modified the turbine to use 2 magnet rotors instead of one the blades are 7,5 foot tsr 6.
my battery bank is 400 amps 12 volt
do i have to wind new coils to get the best out of the midnite controller
regards
morse
thanks for the massive response >:( >:( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :(
How much power do you expect out of this turbine? 7.5ft diameter? What is 1800 design? need more answers. I would say for starters if you have a 12 volt battery I would try to keep stator voltage low and use a Classic 150 as it is the most powerful of the 3. Also keep in mind you have to make sure open circuit voltage of the turbine does not exceed 162 volts for the Classic 150 either by design of the turbine or by using a Clipper.

thanks for you reply :D
the 1800 hugh piggott is a 6 foot wind turbine design with one magnet rotor, max output is 250 watt.
my wind turbine has 2 rotors with magnets it is 12 volt the max power is about 400 watt
do you think there is a big risk that the turbine will go past 162 volt???
it reaches 12 volt at 190 rpm
to get to 162 does that mean the rpm will have to be 162/12 x 190 = 2565 rpm?????
it does have a furling system for winds over 20mph?
can you tell me anything about wire thickness for the cable from wind turbine to controller because that is another advantage of the midnite classic i suspect
rien
I would highly doubt it will ever get to 162vdc but I would keep an eye on it. We would need to know the length of the wire run from the turbine to the Classic including the tower to figure any Voltage Drop calcs
hello halfcrazy
the total lenght is 50 meters [150 ft]
at the moment i am using awg 7 for the tower
and awg 5 for the rest .
the reason for asking is : what happens if i put the tower further away and the total length increases to 75 meters, also will it make a lot of difference to the minimum wire size if i wind new coils for 24 volt.
awg 5 wire is rather expensive.
am i correct to assume that i will need a clipper for 24 and 48 volt meaning the money save on cable i than spent on a clipper
are there any advantages for using a second midnite controller for solar
at the moment i am using two bluesky mppt controllers?
Which Bluesky models?
