Title: AUX using SOC on a Follow Me Classic
Post by: ClassicCrazy on February 26, 2021, 09:30:32 PM
I was helping a friend who has  Classics in Follow Me.  The first Classic is connected to Whizbang and shows SOC.
The second Classic does not have a Whizbang installed.
I hooked up Aux 1 on Classic 2 without the Whizbang and realized that since it doesn't show any SOC it isn't possible to use Aux 1 SOC controls ( such as SOC% High or Low)
Is there a solution to showing SOC from the Classic 1 with the whizbang on Classic 2 without one ?
Or is the only solution to install a second Whizbang and shunt ?  That would take away the ability to use second Classic Aux 2 for PWM .
Thanks
Larry

the whiz bang jr is used on aux 2.  now check aux 1   and there are many possibilities how to program that relay. it certainly has a SOC low or SOC high on my midnites.

Yes it shows the SOC High and Low in AUX 1  on the Second Classic , but without an SOC reading on that Classic , it won't do any controlling based on SOC.
And I can move the wires from the Classic 2 to AUX 1 on the Classic 1 that has the Whizbang unit next time I get over to my friends place.
I will put in a gripe - I hate the AUX wire terminal blocks on the Classics -very difficult to get stranded wire in them , Solid wire would work fine or perhaps when I go there again i will bring my soldering iron to tin the stranded wire to make it stiff .

european best practise is to use boot lace ferrules.  get a kit and you will never look back. i use ferrules on all terminals now.
again. looking on the classic with the whisbang,  the whiz bang jr is connected to aux 2, that leaves aux 1 that has SOC% high and low.

Do you have link - not sure what you mean by boot lace ferrules ? For electronics or boots !

Yeah I might get some too . But seems like the special crimping tool that makes the ends square is a good thing to get along with them.

ah yes, the crimping tool is needed. there are variants that make a square or round crimp. there are also longer and shorter stems. the long stem is easy to cut off.
there are also different colours, so you can colour code.
in europe all the electrical fuse boxes and other devices are ferruled, so are the solar installations.

okay I found a cheap set already in usa for around $20 so I am getting it - comes with a crimper.

It is probably worth if just to keep me from excessive cursing on one job.
The other place I see this as maybe coming in handy is getting the wires into the bottom of midnite din rail breakers - that can be a pain too in tight spaces.

Got my crimping tool and ferrules today. That was fast !
I haven't tried them  yet but will - thanks for your suggestion about using those.
