Title: Unexpected resting after firmware update
Post by: Eric L on March 24, 2012, 02:01:14 PM
I just updated the firmware in my Classic 200 to the latest version (2-20-2012 v2). Since doing so, I've seen it go into resting mode in the middle of the day, with the batteries not yet charged, a load on the system, and full sun on the panels. It stays in resting mode for about 10 seconds, and then goes back to charging. So for example, it will have a 2 KW input from the panels, then resting (0), then back on (2KW).

Panel and battery voltage all look normal. It did this when the PCB board temperature was under 40 C but also when it was near 50C, so it doesn't seem to be temperature related.

Any ideas?

Eric,   Let's see why it's going to resting.

Any time after it goes to resting, but before the end of the day, from the main
status menu, HOLD down the LEFT ARROW button and TAP the ENTER key.

You will see a screen with some numbers on it with IN on the left and OUT
on the right.  What you want to take note of is the number at the MIDDLE-TOP
of the screen.   That number will give an idea of why it went to resting.
That number will always be active and represent the last time it went to
resting.   i.e., the number will not get erased if you don't look at it right
away.
However, at the end of the day, the reason for resting will be because of
low light so you do want to view that RFR number before the sun goes down.

Thanks,
boB

I had the same thing happen to me today after updating the firmware.  I walked through the wizard again and then all was well.  Not sure if that changed anything but it rested several times before I went through the wizard and not at all after.  This was happening with good power coming in so it wasn't a low light situation.  Either way it seems fine now but I thought I would mention what I encountered.

Hmmmm....     OK, well, we want to find out if there is a problem and fix it right away if there is.

Now, there is the "wizard", and then there is the QuckSet method of setting up the defaults.
When updating the software in the Classic, I would suggest running the QuickSet Vulcan mind
meld" at least once and then if wanted, go through the wizard.

How you do this is to power down the Classic and power it back up again.  When the MidNite
Solar Logo comes up, hold down the LEFT and RIGHT arrow buttons until the selection,
"SOLAR WIND HYDRO"  comes up and select your basic mode of operation.
Then, it will guess your battery voltage.   If it is correct, hit ENTER or pick the correct
battery voltage with the UP/DOWN arrows  and then press ENTER.

If it doesn't continue right away, either hold down the ENTER button or press it again
in a few seconds.

Still, we'd like to find any inscrinuities in the operation.

Thanks,
boB

Thanks boB,

The Classic continued going in and out of resting mode again this morning, while bulk charging. I did as you instructed and the number that appeared in the middle top on that screen when it went to rest (and after) was '5'. FWIW, before dawn this morning, the number showing there was '1'.

After hearing it it click on and off repeatedly this morning, I tried what Wxboy did and went through the Wizard again. This seems to have stopped the resting issue. After the Wizard, the number in the top middle was '48'.

I hope I was reading the right number!
