Title: Grid tie inverter SPD installation
Post by: SolarJedi on June 13, 2012, 05:14:36 PM
I would like to start installing SPD's on grid tie only inverters.  My question is will one SPD protect the inverter, or is one per side (AC/DC) needed?  If one is adequate, DC or AC?

Thanks

you better put one on both sides and that's my recommendation, but if you were to go with only one it would be on the ac side.

I agree with Niel 100% I would use 2 but if only one is in the budget the AC side is the most vulnerable

Two SPD's are less than 1% of the system cost. If you only put one in, you will probably only blow up half of the inverter.
Lightning is very unforgiving.
