Title: Charge voltage settings resetting every day
Post by: w0ss on October 31, 2023, 12:28:02 PM
Hey folks I have a midnite classic 250 running for many years. I recently noticed that the voltage settings for absorb and float are resetting to the default every day. I do have it set to reboot nightly. I thought maybe the button cell battery was bad but the manual only mentions time coming from the MNGP. Could it be the button cell battery? or is there another issue?

I noticed this because I wanted to charge my battery to a slightly higher voltage now verse what I had always used(the default).
Thanks,
Will

Did you remember to PRESS <ENTER> to save and confirm the message "DATA SENT & SAVED" ??

Yes, I did remember to save the settings. I just did it again and it does show the saving settings message for a second.

It should not be going to default every night.  Unusual problem I think.

First thing I would do is to do exactly what you did, turn the power off and back on again and check to see if those settings are what you just set them for before you re-powered it.

This will check to make sure nothing else besides the internal non-volatile memory has failed for some reason.  That memory is inside the Classic itself in EEPROM memory.  The MNGP has memory for other things besides charging settings.   Also, the little battery is for keeping the clock and date running while the Classic is powered off.

So, if powering off the Classic and back on again defaults the voltage and/or charge time settings, then I would call the customer service tech(s) and see if they have any ideas before getting an RMA set up for you to fix it or whatever they think needs to be done.

The message you see when pressing ENTER  to save, only says that the Classic received that message to save into its EEPROM but it does not recall the value from EEPROM to verify.
It could be as simple as a bad solder connection to that EEPROM chip.

Lettuce know how that goes if you would like.

Ok, I guess I was mistaken. It didn't happen last night. I am going to go with user error and I didn't save it like I thought.
Thanks,
