Title: System expansion
Post by: mtdoc on July 22, 2012, 03:03:54 AM
Hey there. Great products and great forum.

My current system is 1800 watts of PV on a tracker going to an Epanel (MNEPLUSGVFX3648CL150).  I am currently building a shed on which I will mount another array (fixed) which will go to a second Classic 150.  I'm trying to decide on the best way to bring this into my Epanel.  I'll be coming from a MNPV6 combiner and I would like to add another SPD for this array.

My current thinking is to use a MNEDC-Quad enclosure with 2 panel mount breakers - one for PV input and one for the Classic 150 output to the Epanel.  The MNSPD300 would mount to this enclosure.  A short PV+ busbar inside the enclosure would tie it together.

Does this sound like a reasonable approach? Other ideas or suggestions welcome. Thanks!

Unless there is a problem that's just plainly too obvious that it passes me by, I think you've got it !

Hi,
You can do that with two MNPV6, one for each array and only one Classic 150 Controller if your wire from MNPV6 to CC is sized accordingly. Mount your breakers (panel mount brakers) In and Out on the side of your E-Panel with your CC and just add two SPD300 on the top of the panel. One to protect your DC and the other for your 120 VAC in and out.
May be you can told us your tracking array specifications and what are the panels that you want to add. Are they identical or close enough (+- 10%) to be wired in parrallel.
A+

PV Combiner located  close to second array, then run this to Quad box and Classic close to your E Panel. Yes
Second Classic is required as we have two separate charging  arrays. One static One tracked

Ok good - was hoping not to miss anything obvious myself. Thanks boB!

Thanks Erik -  I already have one tracked array going into a prewired Epanel  with 2 SPDs (1 AC and 1 for PV).  Yes, I also oringally considered using only one CC.  The classic 150 could handle the amps of the second array and the string voltages are close enough but as Nigel points out I believe, based on what I've read, it will be better 2 have 2 CCs given on fixed and one tracked array.  It will be nice to have some redundancy as well!

Actually (or other reasons)  the combiner will be near the Epanel with a short home run to Quad box.

Yup. Thanks nigel!

Now I just gotta get this damn shed built.....Rainy day here in the PNW ::)
