Title: My Roise has PMS
Post by: qrper on August 19, 2024, 01:05:34 PM
Gang...

I don't have an explanation for what Rosie is doing.

First off, I'll wake up in the morning and the microwave wants its clock reset. Sometime over night, power was dropped. The dishwasher is flashing 'PF' meaning power failure. Both are running from power supplied by Rosie.

Then, for whatever reasons, when a high wattage load is turned on, ie the microwave, the lights flicker.

And last on the list, for two days in a row, Rosie has defaulted to her original firmware. I can upload the newest firmware, Rosie restarts, and life is good. Until the next day when she crashes and shows me the default screen asking for a name. Roise is still making power, but I'm not sure about waveform because of the flicking lights. Something's wrong and I think she had PMS.

This is starting to become irritating to say the least.

For some people, the birds sing!

Tech support sent another Rosie and it took a few hours to remove and re-install the new unit. Apparently, I got Rosie's half sister, Stella, in about three hours of operation, she rolled over and died.

Got a 'HW TEST FAIL" which I think might be 'Hard Ware' error?  I don't know.

Checked the fault event and it was filled with various codes. None of which I understood.

FYI... When I applied power to the new unit, I got a fairly loud 'snap' that I figured was the arc from the CB closing.

After I shut down and restarted, I could hear what to me was electrical arcs snapping and growling for a few seconds. That sound went away.

Then less than an hour later, Stella, I mean Rosie, shut down again with the same HW TEST FAIL.

I sent Ryan a note about this issue and most likely I'll get the remove yet another Rosie inverter.

boB... yes!

Ryan offered to send me a 3rd Rosie, which he had 'super tested' and I declined his offer. Why might you ask?

After the 2nd Rosie had her fit, she settled down and is working perfectly.

My crystal ball doesn't work any better than the next guys, but this is what I think happened, and Ryan said it made sense, too.

Okay, I think either a small solder ball or a stray strand of wire was lodge internally and during shipment, came loose and lodged between two places it shouldn't have been lodged. That would explain the arcs and snaps that I heard. Whatever it was, it took two tries before the small hunk of whatever melted, vaporized or ???.

That was it. Rosie is working 100%. I told Ryan there was no need to send a third unit.

Now, I'm pulling this out of my rear end, but somehow I feel the first Rosie I was sent was somehow not exactly right to begin with, which would explain the scratched up cover and the transparent tape holding the MNGP together, neither of which should have left the factory like that.

This second unit is so much better in operation. THere is NO flicker of the lights in the kitchen when the microwave kicks on. No dimming of kitchen lights when other heavy loads come on line. There have been no errors reported in the event log. and, we've had some cloudy weather so I tried out the charger and the fans came on something the first Rosie rarely did, and damn did it feel hot.

So, life is good, the problem fixed and I can say that Midnite Solar stood by their product

You are not pulling that out of your rear end.
I also had such experiences that I would not be bringing up in this thread mainly because Midnite is on top of it.
But it's a good reminder to Midnite to take a bit more care before sending out those units. It costs us pain and time and I am sure, it costs Midnite money and time.

If you guys are short of staff I am available.LOL ;D
