Title: ATS Connection for Solar System to Grid
Post by: brianrylan on October 15, 2024, 10:57:35 PM
Hello, I am using a Midnite Classic 150 with a 450Ah battery and an Outback VFX 3000W inverter. I need to know how to install an Automatic Transfer Switch (ATS) into my system, so that during the day, when the sun is shining, the system will automatically supply power to the house and charge the battery at the same time. When it is dark, the ATS will automatically switch to the grid, charging the battery and supplying power to the house.

How should I install this system? Thanks.

I assume you have a critical loads panel fed by the VFX? If so I would just set up LBX on the Outback it will do this automatically

I use HBX (low battery transfer) on my Outback gear all the time.  You can set the inverter's charger to off so the grid onlhy carries the loads, or activate it and charge as well.  I only set to carry the loads and let renewables charge batteries.  Sometimes over ride and invoke a charge cycle with the inverter as well.

You need a Mate, Mate3, or Mate3s to program the inverter.  HBX is also a Mate controlled function.  'got Mate?
