I'm wanting to protect a 480v 3-phase submersible pump. The pump controller has 800v DC input, as well as 480v AC input. I won't be able to protect the DC line with the SPDs because the voltage is too high, correct?
My question is: What's the best way to have optimal protection on the 480v AC line?
Would I simply install 3 SPD600's at the main service panel? And then expect that everything after that would be protected? The service panel is right next to the pump controller.
Or would I have 3 at the service panel and 3 more after the pump controller, just before the 480v AC lines go down to the submersible pump? The lines go 700' down to the pump. Usually it's the pump that burns out after a bad lightning strike, not the pump controller.
Thanks
