Title: My classic 150 date and time keeps resetting for no reason.
Post by: mtfalk64 on September 28, 2012, 08:39:19 PM
My classic 150 keeps asking me to set the time and date.  I reset the date and time and days later it goes back to factor setting.

Did you pull out the little piece of paper insulator between the battery and its holder in the MNGP  ?  (Remote)

If so, one thing you might try is, while the little coin cell battery is out, press down on the two fingers that
hold the battery in.  Then reinsert the battery.  I have seen them get a bit loose and not make a good
connection.  Hopefully it's that simple.

Thanks,
boB

I will try that.  It may go for a month or two then I see the date and time needs to be set again.  I will take your advice a pull the battery and try it.  Thanks

Mike

Yes, Mike, please let us know if you continue to have more problems with this when the Classic
has not been turned off or if the coin cell battery is good.   Good is 2.0 volts or more but I think
it keeps the time/date good when power is turned off down to the low 1 volt range.  Maybe, 1.2
volts or so ??

I have heard reports that the year could change but the time stayed on.  I don't know
how this can happen but I'm sure willing to try to figure it out.  Would e real nice to
find some kind of coincidental action that causes this to happen.

bob you are correct, the year resets back to factory setting but the time stays current.  Good point I forgot to mention.

I used to have reversion of the Year to 2000 on one Classic 150,  and once on that same CC,  the time was behind about 10 or so hours,  IIRC.

Per another thread,  ReUpdated the FirmWare to the 6/29,  BUT,  did wait for a number of minutes after the update complete messag,  before closing the Updater.  The CC that previously had the year problem has not had that issue for over two weeks ...  knock,  knock.  FWIW,  Vic

I just updated my Midnite 150 to the new firmware and we shall see.  I am still going to pull the small backup battery and try that too.  Thanks

Yes,  Mike,

I'd do the battery R & R.  I may be completely incorrect on the FW aspect.  good Luck,  Vic
Title: Classic 200 date and time resets

After combing the FAQs, this thread seemed the best

Time and date will reset if I power off the Classic, even for a short period of times.  Checked the button cell - near 3V, cleaned with cotton cloth and re-installed.  Battery clip seems to hold it tight.

May have posted prematurely.  After cleaning the button cell I should have waited until I tried it overnight to see if it worked.

So, I would say the battery had a little bit of resistance and once it was cleaned it is making good contact in the battery clip.  Time and Date now seem to hold when Classic is powered down.

A1;

I do seem to recall an issue with some of the battery clips at some point in Classic production? Perhaps you were one of the lucky ones and got one with a defective clip?

Glad its working!

I see 2 issues on occasion.
1-The prongs on the battery clip needing to be pushed in
2-There is some residual glue on the battery from the remove tag acting as an insulator.

I would go with the residual glue option as the battery was sliding out as I pulled the tab.  I had to hold the battery with finger tip and re-seat it.  There appeared to be a slight film coating on the PCB side of the button cell battery before I cleaned it.

Now all I need is sunshine.

Did anybody mention the TIme Synch in the Tweaks menu ?

If that is off, then the MNGP won't tell the Classic what the time
and date is.  But that wouldn't make it forget.  It wouldn't know
the time and date in the first place from that MNGP.

Is the battery dead, maybe ?   The voltage should be around 3 volts
when good but it will run down to around 2 volts or slightly less.

Thought I better throw those in as well just in case.
