Title: SPAM prevention
Post by: Barry Fields on April 18, 2025, 12:49:21 PM
I am sure that others are also tired of wading thru posts about "gummies" etc.

If I could suggest that "newbys" not be allowed to directly post to the forum but those posts be pre-approved by an administrator.

Once that person is promoted to Jr member and above, direct posting would be allowed.

I have talked to a web site designer who says it should not be difficult to accomplish depending on the forum platform.

I was somewhat astonished to see how many newbys are in the member list. A purge may be necessary.

I have a contact that could help with this if necessary.

I would suggest that any member that has not logged on in the last year might be removed.

I would also suggest 2 new classes of membership.

RETIRED - no longer active but worth savings their posts - imparted wisdom

MEMORIAM - for the same reasons

I just marked about 10 unread posts as read. Hope I have not missed any REAL posts.

Barry,
I need to spend a day learning what I can do with SMF, you are correct in that I need to do something as spam deletion has become a morning coffee routine lol. I probably also need to recruit some volunteers as moderators to assist.

Ideally, I would like the first post to have to be approved this would solve the issue, I will do some digging

I realize time is money and money is time. If you are short on time, I might suggest outside help.

I know a neighbor that manages websites for a living. I can vouch for her honesty. In a preliminary conversation she said she could help you out depending on the platform you are using.

You might want to contact her (INFO PM'd)
I am sure she would be willing to give you path to success.

Dani also suggested a filter that would minimize your intervention.

Words such as "CBD' "gummies" "viagra"..... would automatically delete the post.

Barry ,
Knowing all the spam bots on here you should send your friends contact and  email info as personal message to ryan - and delete it on your post.
