Serial Number is 2260 so wondering if this has the newest firmware?
Anyway, have done a couple searches and find similar issues but am hoping someone can give me some feedback on any settings that may help.
Fairly low light conditions this morning, but the Classic 250 was needing about 20 watts before it would stop going from bulk to resting. Every minute or so it was clicking back into resting mode, while my other controller on a similar string was pulling power the whole time.
Sooo, is there a way to keep the Classic 250 from resting so much during low light conditions? I know anything under 20 watts isn't much but I'll take it during this time of year...
Thanks...
20 Watts is the amount of power needed to keep the Classic from Resting.
For now, go to the TWEAKS menu and turn on INSOMNIA. That should keep it
from resting at least for the 20 watt reason.

awesome... thanks much. ;D
Realize in Insomnia the classic will never sleep and it will actually use more power when there is no sun so I think what boB ment to say was use Insomnia for that short spell but make sure you turn it off before the sun goes away

copy.
when i changed it to insomnia last night (obviously dark out) and i did save the setting as it was still on insomnia this morning, it was resting???
now that there is more light out and it is showing 2-4 watts, it is up and running and not switching back and forth from mppt to resting.
so, if in insomnia and it's showing resting, it's using more power?
Sorry that was my mistake. I was thinking about how it works in Hydro. It apparently works different in Solar so it may work well for you.

FWIW, it does seem to be working nicely in insomnia today and low light again.. pulling more power from the classic on a smaller array than another different make controller 8)

this is great!
What is that other controller?
haha.... don't want to slag anyone, but it is a sweet controller that 'used to be' my favourite :-X
I also changed to the insomnia setting last night on my classic - nice to get rid of all that relay clicking every morning and evening. I will try to watch and see how it behaves.....
well I just looked at it , cloudy day here and it said bulk 15 volts in charging .6 amp - I turned insomnia off and it went back to 62 volts in and charging about 2 amps .....
Not sure what I did with all my button pushing but had to reset the date - year changed to 2000 but time and date held . I better take some time and study the manual and all those parameters . I notice pushing status button repeatedly gives me different options too and never noticed those before so not sure if this is something from the new beta version ? .
let me get clarification on this. when just before going back into resting with say .6a batt, by his example, showing before the transition to resting means .6 amp times xx.x vmp at the time and must reach 20w before any of that current is actually charging the batteries or is the current shown above and beyond what the classic was drawing and represents current to the batteries after the classic requirements are met? i'm not sure if i'm explaining my question right to you guys.
ok try this. if i see .3a batt is this being eaten up by the classic or is this charging my batteries?

I think that this may have just been a coincidence. The Classic may have temporarily gotten stuck near battery voltage at
its input.
BTW, the latest code, or code coming out soon should fix that.
As for the date going back to year 2000, I wish I could find rhyme or reason for that. Your information here may
help solve that rare but annoying date issue. Did the time and month/day stay OK ?? Was it only the year
that changed to 2000 ???
Thanks !

Yes - only the year seemed to change - everything else was the same. Quote from: boB on November 03, 2012, 06:12:57 PM[/font]
