Title: How to reset the pf-5 after cold alarm ?
Post by: dtbaker61 on January 11, 2026, 05:07:20 PM
I have an off grid system set up at a fairly remote site, open loop because there is no wifi or cell service available. Last night the batteries (2x pf-5) alarmed (probably both <32F, and maybe LV as well) and seem to have latched in "alarm" mode.

The red alarm LED is lit, but nothing else. No run LED, and no SOC LEDs

The temperature has been well above freezing all day, and I have turned on some external battery warmers inside the solar shed.... but the batteries never started charging, and only the alarm LED is lit. I have tried everything to reset and clear alarm I can think of. holding and releasing power button appears to attempt a reset where run and soc leds blink, but then the batteries return to display just the alarm.

QUESTION: will the alarm clear itself when battery core warms up to ??F ? Or, is there some manual sequence I need to do to clear the alarm so the batteries can accept charge ?

Midnite says the batteries should auto-start when they get above 36F..... but this is not happening. batteries are stuck with solid red LED, and nothing else on.

HELP

good news is that the pf-5 batteries DID finally re-start....after sitting at 40+F for hours. I am guessing it took that long for all the cells to warm up. Thought I'd post a followup just so others don't panic if it takes a while.

Thanks for posting your experience.  'great that they restarted.  About how much heat did you apply for approximately how long?   Did you have them just stacked or in a battery enclosure?

(I'm in a similar environment and just getting started with these batteries).

Thanks.
