Title: MNLP flashing bug
Post by: zoneblue on November 07, 2015, 02:24:11 PM
Ok i have a bug report as well. After about 2 days uptime this morning i awoke to the controller (lite) display panel in an all led flashing pattern. Not the control board LEDS just the MNLP. Reboot corrected it. Im not exactly sure if the flashing started just then, or it had started earlier but was still charging. It was 8am on a foggy morning. Bulking 100W.

This issue has now recurred at about 3 days uptime. The controller appears to still be charging, absorbing about 750W into various loads.  The flash pattern is about one quarter second on, 3/4 off.

Should i reboot it or let it run?

That is a sign of got comm. It sticks there and does not correct itself until a reboot? Can you still access the controller with the local app?

Yeah i can. I left it flashing for the last 24 hours, and the controller seems to be charging fine regardless.  So its only the MNLP that cant talk to the controller, right?

It does seem reproducable. Do you want me to reboot and time how long its takes the third time? Or just leave it to flash. I am kinda (actually very ) interested in the uptime perfomance of this firmware so maybe ill leave it to flash. Or unplug it.

Well for now I wold ignore the flashing. So this has worked fine before you went to the new code though right?

Does this Classic have a WBjr on it? I put MNLP's on 3 of my classics and within 1hr the one with the WBjr started doing the same thing, I swapped that MNLP with one that wasn't flashing and will check in the AM. I have also brought this to Andrews attention

Interestingly this morning the flashing has stopped, and the bulk led lit as normal. Thinking that it had rebooted in the night, i checked blackbox, uptime 6 days and still going strong. So the flashing thing resets eventually.

Out of curiousity also checked the blackbox connection log, its connection has been unbroken since it was last manually rebooted 6 days ago.

Its nothing more than a hunch but i get the feeling that the reset bug was assocaited with the network stack, because it only started when i increased the sample rate. 6 days is pretty good so fingers crossed.

At 10 days stopped flashing. Uptime 10.4 days... You get the general  idea.

Can you power off the classic and power it back on, What I need to know is on boot up do all the led's flash once or does one blink then the next one then the next one?

Ryan, it goes like this:

pv breaker off, classic breaker off, wait 10s,
classic breaker on
all mnlp leds immediately  lit for about 1/2s
all mnlp leds off about 1/2s
2 normal interval flashs of green 'float'/standby led
one breif flash of all mnlp leds maybe 1/10s
then green standby flashing resumes

I have a phone video if you need it.

BTW prior to this reboot, uptime got to 14.4 days with 2074. When my average since 1609 was 5.1 (record of 30 days). Oh well, ill start counting over, but it does look quite promising that the wdt resets are fixed :) Well pop the champaigne in another 30 days.

I recently put a Classic200 into service. Ended up flashing with Firmware 2074. Note that I have nothing connected other than PV & batteries. Spent a couple days playing with the status panel app. After I was able to get EVERYTHING dialed in & found all the LED's slowly flashing the next morning. Was unable to tell if it was still charging. I recycled and all is OK. Couple days later, same thing. Should I just U/G to current & move on? Note this is happening on a light.

Thanks guys

And mean time, know that its charging just fine. And you can use the local app to monitor your system.

-2074, new MNLP,  no flashing, tested for 6 days
-2079, old MNLP, no flashing for 24 hrs thus far

Yes we would expect the old MNLP's to be a problem.
