Title: MyMidnite2 and HughesNet Latency?
Post by: ki7xh on March 22, 2016, 02:48:45 PM
Hi folks,

I'm totally new to the forum, fairly new to Midnite, but not new to RE.  I've had a PV-charged UPS system in my rural Wyoming home since 1995, to cover what used to be really horrible utility service.  (16 x 85 W Solavolt panels with a simple mercury-contactor single stage charge controller, Trace SW4024, and a 24 V bank of IBE 85N-33s.)  I've just upgraded most of it with over 4 kW of PV, a new Outback VFX3524 Inverter with MATE3 and FNDC battery meter, an identically-sized HuP battery bank, and a couple Midnite Classics to regulate my two new PV arrays.  I've been spending more and more time off-grid and really enjoying it, and the new technology!

Outback's OpticsRE has proven to be really handy when I'm away, so I was thrilled to learn of MyMidnite2.  Unfortunately I can't get it to work, even after trading numerous emails with Roy at Midnite.  All my firmware is current, but my Classics just won't connect/report.

I'm wondering if the problem isn't the latency of my HughesNet satellite connection.  (old-school Ku band)   Is anyone else here able to connect to MM2 through HughesNet?  I have a substantial LAN in my home and outbuildings, and the Classics are fully available on my intranet for the Local App, and a few Android devices using the Classic Monitor app from Graham.  They just can't seem to get out, through the Hughes modem.

Thanks for any input!  It's greatly appreciated!

Updated Firmware on both Classics:

- Classic Rev: 2079
- Network Rev: 2073
- MNGP: 2054

Sorry for my delay in responding, and thanks for the help!

My modem is an old HN7000S.

I enthusiastically read the thread you linked, but I must have already been using MM3.  Both of my Classics were already pointed to 159.203.65.201.  And I thought that was www.mymidnight2.com.  I tried to log in and I could, so I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong here, if anything.

When I look at my browser tab, it clearly says www.mymidnite2.com but my address bar says what I entered (thinking it was for MM3) of 159.203.65.201.  They've been web-access/Enabled for a month now.  Still nothing showing up.

Clueless here.  I don't want to spend too much time trying to get it to work if there's an issue with it getting through HughesNet's NOC.  (It wouldn't be the first time something didn't work through their systems.)

Thanks again!
