Title: When it Rains it Pours
Post by: Herman on March 14, 2017, 06:11:57 AM
As you have read I have installed a Victron 48 Volt Inverter charger for the NiFe cells and it is working well, now the Out Back VFX3024E has and error light flashing continually (rapidly) so more money not a happy camper. From all this I have learnt don't believe people who say it will work when you doubt it will go with your gut and research more, if you have a old system in the property you are buying you are better off installing a complete new system from scratch and don't try and make the old system work with a new system and get better AH and have them work in unison (you will end up with egg on your face) as you are doomed for failure and it may not be straightaway but will happen at the most inconvenient times, every time the installer comes to your house to check on his work or wants to change things ask him why and what benefit it is for you and why are you thinking of it now, HIND SIGHT is 20/20.

So as you guys can see I have made some mistakes apart from buying the MidNite classic 150 and the Victron (just wish MidNite had there offering out here on OZ now).

My options now are to basically dismantle the lead acid 24 volt system including the  Out Back VFX3024E which is about 500 AH I think and remove the puny 40 x 200 AH NiFe cells @ 9,600 Watts then replace them with 40 x 500 AH NiFe @ 24,000 watts (over double the capacity) which should be enough power as we just watch telly and have a fridge running at night.

I am just glad the solar panels don't have to be replaced or i would have been hit with a EMU eg in the face, anyway I have had my moan and thanks for listening and I have learnt it is not all smoke and mirrors.

Cheers, Herman

PS and my Laptop is making some horrible grinding noises

my Laptop is making some horrible grinding noises

Possibly not that bad...  cold be the fan or more likely the hard drive.

The HD is usually an easy R&R then you have to reload it all unless you can get someone to ''GHOST'' copy the contents

One of my mate paid $10,000 for a bank of edisons out of western australia and now the supplier has gone broke!
So he is a tad miffed at the moment as well herman.
No chance of getting cash or batteries.
Should have done as I suggested at bought the newer carbon trojans from a dealer in maryborough.
Good price and pay on delivery!
Man that is a wad of cash to loose! :o >:( :'( :'( :'( :'(
Hope you have not been washed away down there Herman.

Thanks WB, err I am not replacing anyhting I can avoid atm, lol.
My setup is performing well and it is just my sons I need to add storage to!
My mate that got ripped off will probably now go for 4 x L16's to run the house during the day and switch to grid tie during the night.
I am looking for a smaller latronics gridtie inverter for him at the moment to give the power meter a wind back as well during the day to balance out his power costs.

Russ read the pamphlet, it is both OG and GT configurable... but there may be a few parts needed to GT it.  one of the videos in the little box on the right hand of the OneStop link under storage

I saw that and there a few made in taiwan models of the same config offgrid put me onto.
Kurt uses one as abackup for some years now and it has performed without a problem.
I have toyed with the idea of getting one for backup as well as I have excess panels and I can buy a few cheaper batteries for mum's
backup system I have planned. Best of both worlds, grid tie and standalone in one.
Around $400 from memory.
