Title: Current draw of "Switched" version
Post by: Westbranch on December 13, 2011, 03:59:58 PM
I just received 2 BCM's to be given as Christmas gifts to  friends that are non-solar-ophiles..
I expect a question or 2 from them as to how to hook up etc.  (I think I will end up 'helping').
both installs will be in a camper with a solar panel roof mounted and PWM CC.  Neither are into conservation yet wrt their night time use of their battery power...  trying to get them to use LEDs for lights first...

Question
I noticed in the instructions that the BCM can be installed switched and wondered about the draw while the switch is off...   Average draw listed as 12.5 mA.
I know it is not much draw but these campers sit for 3 weeks or more between uses. And then for 4 - 5 months over winter.. with no monitoring in those long periods.

Well I would suspect it to be 3-4ma less but Mario is hooking one up at this moment and will test it so stay tuned.

Ok official word from Mario has arrived. 12.5ma with LED's and 6ma in switched mode with no LED's

great, so it is worth the effort to add in the switch and turn of the LEDs on one panel systems.

thanks.
