Just an inquiry I have a Classic 250 charge controller and I want to charge a 120 volt lithium LiFePo4 battery so I was wondering if I could change the 250 to a 250ks.
Any comments would be appreciated.
No, unfortunately it isn't that simple.
However, with two (2) charge controllers, you can charge two halves of a 120 volt battery independently.
One CC for the top 60V and another one for the bottom 60V.
Let us know if you would like more information on that option. Each CC will need its own PV array and the negatives
will have to be separate from each other.
The Ethernet is isolated so that part of the communications can be used when they are applied in this way.

The batteries I have are 40 volt and my inverter is 120 volt so naturally my question is the easiest way to do it would be to have 3 charge controllers and 3 arrays if that is possible but likely I need to buy a 250ks and just use one battery of 3 in series.

The Classic 250 KS has NOT been made for some years now.
You might, possibly find one on e-bay, or similar site, but ...

That sounds like a very non standard system you are planning?.....40 volt batteries? From whom and what type?
There are 120 volt DC inverters but they are rare and specific to certain applications, but they are not common in housing or off grid use.
I've seen them in computer buildings and two way radio shacks as a no fail system but they are rare outside of that.
Some other company does make controllers that are capable of 120 volt battery systems, search and you will find them.
When you stray outside of what the standard system is you will find few sources of Equiptment and persons with the skills to maintain that Equiptment.
One mission critical two way radio dispatch system that I maintained had an Exeltech 20 kW. N+1 system with a 120 volt battery bank.
The inverter system was over $40,000 alone.........this supported a 36 channel radio system used in law enforcement.....money was no problem in this application. The complete installation was over 12 million! I'm still bound not to say who or where. I did have to sign non-disclosure.
My advice..........stick with the known unless you are an engineer or can afford one.
24 volt and 48 volt are the standard.........in the 1940's it was 32 volts, you will not find anything 32 volt now but Hamilton Beach used to make 32 volt home appliances.
Wind generators of the day were 32 volts....Jacobs.....long gone.....

I already have the 120 vdc inverter and the Battery packs A123 bus batteries are 26650 lithium so I could configure them in twins for 72 (80) volts and buy equipment for that or a 36 volt inverter. Since I have the 120 vdc inverter I thought I might try it first seems there are lots of Chinese solar chargers for 120 vdc so I may order one and wait for delivery or just charge them using electricity with a charger .

I recalla discussion about pulling a Li cell or 2 and make a 'new' battery out of a slightly larger one, that you can get a more standard inverter that has tolerances that allow an OFF Normal Voltage Battery to power it up.

Yes this is possible I have already done that and made a 24 volt battery for my Outback 3524 works good just trying to get my 120vdc inverter working productively so basically need a way to charge the 120vdc maybe with 2 chargers. I will keep trying for now.
