I have a 24V setup with eight Trojan T105-RE 6V 225 Ah in two strings of four (450Ah at 24V) fed by 2160W of PV panels (240W x 9 in three strings of three and VoC ~ 110V). The Midnite Classic 150 is my CC running firmware 1923 (MNGP 1933).

I'm considering using the "Night light" function of my Classic 150 to power two 20W LED floodlamps (totalling 40W). Would this amount to gross abuse or can AUX2 handle it? I know the AUX1 is explicitly stated to handle 200mA or 1A "dry contact".

If AUX2 can't handle the power, any suggestions on how to go about it? I have other more cumbersome ways of addressing the issue but asides being more cinvenient, this option would as well be the most straightforward.

Hi,

I'm pretty sure both ports are limited to 200mA; it will certainly be under the nearly 2A you'll need.  You could just add a relay rated to handle the lights; the control side of the relay is then all that is switched by the Aux relay.

If it we're me, I might keep Aux2 for something more useful.  Load diversion being the obvious one.  The "waste-not" function using Aux2 is pretty awesome, and easily adjusted for your needs.

For the lights why not just add a photocell or OS or combination (eg. RAB Stealth.  It can be close-nippled to the light  box.  They are also available in DC.  Or, Aux1 I suppose, if available.  Just something to consider.  Good luck, ~ks
