I am still keen to understand if there may be a charge controller that can optimise the output of my 48v proven wind turbine.
Currently the turbine is clamped to a battery bank (via rectifier).
Is there a charge controller that can be used to extract a little more power from the turbine?

Hi jhinshel,

I don't think they ever completed "wind learning" where the optimum performance might be refined/developed by an algorithm in the controller.  It is, however, possible to pre-program a power curve into the Classic that the controller attempts to stay on throughout the operating range of the turbine.  The controller runs in Wind Mode, and the curve is a 16-step chart with current (out of the Classic) and voltage (from your rectifier, into the Classic).  It is easy to program, and easy to change and save.

I'm not too familiar with the Provens (48V and ~2.5 kW IIRC), but there have been some folks here and on Otherpower forum who may have a starting line for you.

The nice thing is that the Classic then lets the voltage rise significantly (2-3x) above the nominal battery voltage, and you can get a better match over a wider range of speeds.
