Charging Power

I am trying to find out if there is a way to up my Rosie Charger output from ~3200 watts to its rated 6000+ watts while on my Genny.  My QD7500 provides two legs of 120v, not 240v like our shore power where I can pump 6000 watts into the batteries. 

I have been told the rosie is really 2 3500w inverter/chargers.  At least thats how its been described when I was trying to get Grid Support working from a 30amp Shore power cord.

Since I am providing 120v twice I was wondering if there is a way to power the "other" charger to double up the charging output to its rated 120a.  (26AAC) 

Ideas?   As it is now, I have to run my Genny twice as long as I would need if I was able to get its full capacity.

Actually on the Jersey Shore this week and really need the full batteries to keep the AC's running in this heat! (without the genny running constantly)

Do you have any 240V loads?

If not seems like you could run the Rosie in 120v/120v mode versus 120/240v?

Not sure on implications where you connect to your load panel I would give support a call tomorrow morning to validate full repercussions.

As noted if you do not need 240V out you can set Rosie to 120/120 and use a 120V generator

I changed the topology to 120/120 and turned on the charger to 26AAC, Breaker size set to 60.  I am still only seeing ~3200 watts of charging.   Not the full 120amps (~6000w) I am trying to get.  Changing the topology did nothing different.  Is there something else that I need to change to get the full charge to get my batteries topped off quickly?

Presumably in 120/120 mode the AAC setting is dealing with amps at 120V, i.e set to 26A that would deliver 26x120=3120W? Why not increase charge rate to max?

I cannot get it to go over 26AAC,  its the same with either topology.  Do you know of a way to make it go higher?   -Bill

I emailed Ryan about the 120v/120v mode, basically need to feed 120V into both L1 and L2 and then take both l1 and l2 output and run to load center:

"Yes if you want the full 7KW you need to connect L1 and L2 together

Feed the 120V generator to both L1 and L2 and feed L1 and L2 out to the load center."

Both 120v legs are fed into the rosie from the Genny.  In a single phase, that is just how my QD7500 works, it produces two legs of 120v, not 2 legs of split phase.  So they cannot produce 240v like I can with a 50amp shore power feed.  I do not have shore power so I cannot verify that i saw 6000 watts charging the batteries.  But that is what their rating of 120a charging would produce, and I believe I had seen that in the past.   
I rarely charge the battery pack when we are in a campground and have power as we wouldn't be using much battery then.  But I have, and I am pretty sure I had seen the 6000+ watts going in on both SA and VRM.

This week we are in a parking lot on the Jersey Shore and its hot so the A/C is on a lot sucking the batteries down rapidly requiring the Genny to supplement the power and charger the battery too.

When we are running the Genny AND the AC I see 2200+ watts going into the battery,  when the AC is not on I see about 3200 watts going into the battery. 

So just charging the battery (no AC running) its taking twice the genny run time than I would expect to recharge the batteries as the charger is producing 1/2 its rated capacity. 

Since it seems the Rosie has been explained by MN support as 2 3500 watt inverter/chargers I would think  both running would be able to output a total of 120a to the battery. 


Are you able to change that setting of 26AAC to higher on your rosie?

Ok so you have both legs of 120V connected to ac input l1 and l2?

And the Rosie in 120V/120V mode?

And l1 and l2 ac output connected to either side of your load panel?

So the issue:
When in 120/120 Mode Rosie assumes it is being fed form a single pole breaker (IE 120/120). It then takes the values and divides them by 2 so 26A AC CHARGE is 13A per side and 60A breaker size is 30A per side of Rosie

This limits charge to around 60A DC by default

In order to get the 120A DC you need 120/240 or 120/208 feeding the Rosie

What I am gathering from this info is no one will be able to get more than 60 amp charging with Onan Generators installed in our Motorhomes unless they have 10,000 Watt or larger generators. 

I would think they could fix that so the standard Onan generators that produce two legs of 120v, (120/120v) could charger the batteries at 120a..

Till then we need to run our Generators twice as long.  (which sucks!)
