Hi,
I have a proven 2.5 kw wind turbine clamped to a 48v battery bank. The machine is a 48v volt machine. I'm looking to interface a midnite classic and I would like some advice about which one to get. The classic 150 looks fine - has anyone had any experience with using one of these with the proven.

Regards,
Justin

Hi Justin, how high do your winds get? The main issue as I understand it is the maximum voltage that the Proven can output. I also have a Proven WT2500 and I'm in a moderate to low speed wind area (seasonal high winds). When talking to Ryan at Midnite he seemed to think the 200 would be suitable and I wasn't able to find documentation that told me the highest incoming volts that might be expected from the Proven so I went with that. However since I've had it installed the max. volts I've seen, around 108.6 and that would have been around 46 mph. The 150 would probably be fine unless you have extreme winds but I will defer to the experts here.

Good to see another Proven guy -- would like to compare notes sometime :)

What we are trying to find or figure out now is what the power curve for a Proven should be.

We'll eventually get a good one.

I'm in a fairly windy place - Cornwall. lt looks like a 200 would be suitable.
Presumably you have a 48 volt machine.
were you able to compare the performance with and without the classic?
If so, I'd be interested to find out what difference it made.

I would be interested to compare notes, perhaps we could exchange contact details somehow.

Is it necessary to programme the power curve into the controller or is it possible to stab at the right sort of ball park and let the controller sort out the rest?

SolarWind

Yes I have a 48v battery charging system, I installed it in 2005. I've just recently installed the Clipper/Classic and don't have enough data yet to see a performance increase. All my data from the turbine is in wind speed & power density from a data recorder but have not recorded Kwh separate from my overall system which includes some PV. Frankly I'm a little out of my depth with the whole power curve deal and boB has been trying to provide some guidelines. I think they are trying to come up with a power curve suitable for the Proven 2.5 -- in the meantime I've been making small adjustments to a pre-programmed curve to see what happens. I'm in learning mode  :)

jhinshel - I sent you a PM (personal message) which you can get by going to your profile on this board, it has my personal email.

Bob,
I am wondering if it is worth me getting a classic on the proven machine. Will I be able to stab a power curve in there and let the classic optimise or is it necessary to get an accurate curve programmed in?

Justin

Not until we have wind learning in there.  I am planning on doing some work on this at least in February.

Until then, it just uses the curve you set up.  If the wind would only sit still for awhile it would be
very easy to make an almost perfect power curve !   (or a wind tunnel)

I'm looking for an update on the capabilities of the classic in terms of wind loading.
