classic 250 2012 model functionality

What is the difference between a classic 250 built in 2012 and one built in the current year? Can I just update the firmware to bring it up to the current year's functionality?

Apparently no hardware difference and yes you can upload the latest firmware to get up to date functionality.  Thats a major feature of the Classics, uploading new firmware as additional features are implemented.
