Unable to update firmware

Just finished install last week. I have a Midnight Classic 150. 4 x 255 watt panels on my RV. I have 400 amps of battery at 12 volts. Since I am mobile I do not use the online monitoring. I use the local app. It is wired to my WIFIRanger router and then trough wifi to my computer. I have been experiencing numerous lost communication with the Classic. I have to power cycle it to get it to reconnect.

Current firmware is:
1821  MNGP
1849 Classic

I downloaded the program to update firmware and tried to update both the classic and MNGP

The computer recognizes the device through USB but I get a message: Failed: Classic is not responding

I have tried different USB cables. I tried with the Ethernet cable disconnected. No luck
Serial number is 18700

Help.

Hi Priusron,

Have you configured your computer's USB Port for Comm 8?

Have you seen these instructions --  go to the very bottom of this page to the Links,  and choose the Link to the OS that your computer is using:

http://www.midnitesolar.com/firmwareReport.php?firmware_ID=9&firmwareProduct_ID=1&act=edit

AND,  follow each step of the instructions EXACTLY.

Am not a computer hotshot.   FWIW,      Vic

The disconnects from the local app is a known issue. There is an Alpha firmware to fix the problem but it did not work for me. It is more directed toward fixing the connection with MyMidnite online web app.

While I have the disconnects it does not require power cycling the Classic. Try reseting the router next time it times out and see if it comes back. Only one connection can be made to the Classic at a time. I would also make sure to use a static IP rather than DHCP then set the LA to that IP address. Be sure to restart Classic after making the Static IP change.

Good Luck and welcome aboard.

AhA !  You don't have the problem that this newer version is supposed to fix then.

I'm pretty sure that this fix was intended to fix the crashing that required the Classic to be reset in order to re-connect.

This network crashing appears to happen only with certain network hardware and was becoming rarer.

Let's cross our fingers.

So, I wonder why your system still has problems, RH ?

boB..

Correct I do not require a Classic reboot to reconnect to Local App. Not sure when the last time I saw that disconnect that required a reboot but it was a long time ago. I think that was happening with MyMidnite connects which I don't have an Internet connection for the Classic just local. I eliminated all router hardware by connecting Classic with Ethernet cable directly to laptop. I was still able to get the LA to disconnect repeatable if I left it sit on the Data Offline screen of the local app and the Classic on the Main Status screen. Only tested this for about 8 hrs and then went back to my router and rolled the Alpha firmware back to productions because the Logging function was screwed up with that version of the Alpha firmware Andrew was working on. So unless it is something with my T540 Lenovo laptop with Intel I217-LM Network controller the disconnect from LA is either a Classic or a LA problem. On wireless the T540 is using an Intel Wireless AC7260 network controller and the disconnects are more frequent especially trying to export data or change settings on the Classic. It will still disconnect just sitting on the Status pages of both the LA and the Classic but that takes a long time to see the disconnects.

I've posted all this in another thread for Andrew's information.

This Classic will be on it's way back to you on RMA 1920 for daily kWh accumulation getting set back to zero with a high load from the microwave. You have the data from another post. Hope to drop it off at UPS today.  ;D
