My "Woodpecker" Problem

What caused my problem? it was me, while attempting to calibrate my kid, I figured the best time to do it was when the kid was resting and no load on the batteries so they had a chance to stabilize. While this a good condition to adjust the battery voltage offset, not so much for the input voltage offset .  My input voltage offset screen with array disconnected showed residual voltage,  I adjusted till screen showed 0 volts, moving well into the - offset range to achieve this. This is what caused my kid to  woodpecker,  I re calibrated the input voltage while the kid was in bulk mode and goodbye woody woodpecker.

Another symptom I had was the 1 and 2 week led's would "twinkle" not flash on/off while the kid was resting. This is also gone after the re calibration.

I hope when a new revision to the manual is published, that a "conditions requirement" is outlined for the adjustment sections.

The calibration should always be done when the sun is shining.... 

also the display even at midnight in both Kid and Classic will show about half of the 'last known' input voltage, a quirk of the beast...

So you never want to calibrate the voltage to 0.0 ....

Interesting that you replicated the ''woodpecker''.... Maybe Bob or Mario will comment.

I like to do all the setups / voltage adjustments say between high noon till max harvested . Then the VD is taken into account .
But thats my way when Im checking for VD & heat .

Mine had the woodpecker and it finally burned up and refused to charge the batts. Had to send it in for repairs.

Click was like a machinegun in speed.

What is your battery voltage?  And,  that chemistry are they,  ie,  Flooded, AGM,  etc?

What are the Vmp, Voc,  Imp of your PV modules?

...Where is the negative lead from the PVs connected into your system?
