DC Breaker or Cut Off Switch recommendations?

I'm looking for a 2 Pole breaker for the following:

Compete newb here. I'm plannning a system with 2-3 100W 12V solar panels,  So, 400-600W. I think that I will need 9AWG wire from the panels to the charge controller, and I think that I want to put a 40A DC 2 pole breaker in-between, for times when I want to safely disconnect the system from the solar panel input.

Am I on track here?

what voltage is your battery system going to be ?
Which controller ? That can determine if you put your pv in parallel or series.
If you are putting the pv in parallel then you need to use a combiner box and that will have breakers in it.
Either way you would want to have a breaker before the controller .
Use voltage drop calculator to determine what size wire you need based on voltage and how far they are from controller.

12V 230Ah battery; Victron 100|50 Charge Controller. About 15' of 9AWG wire from the panels to the charge controller.  I'll probably get a 2000W inverter, but for now this is a very simple system designed just to charge the battery.

If you want to make your wiring a lot easier and neater , get a Midnite Mini DC box with the appropriate sized inverter breaker. The box has a wiring diagram with it ( ignore the stuff in dotted lines if you don't use the gfci part) . It has the places to mount pv input breaker and breaker for output to battery  plus mounting location for a shunt if you want to use one of those. It also has some extra places to mount extra breakers to go to DC loads or distribution block if you want.
