Are there good reasons *not* to use Anderson Power Pole

connectors, rather than MC4s for a smaller system that is pretty much portable, as in
put together and taken apart and moved every few days?

I'm kicking around the idea of building out a smaller demonstration system (seeing how the local
code authority is such a pain in the rear) with a lot of this PV stuff I shoved in the shed.

To simplify things, I am considering using anderson powerpole connectors, rather than MC4s.

is there a good reason not to do this?

Anderson connectors have no ingress protection, MC4 connectors have a IP67 ingress protection rating.

And I care about ingress protection on a system that will be set up for 2 days maximum because? j

Since these are used in thousands of applications as high current interconnects, I see no reason you cannot use them for a demo system. They must meet specifications for industrial use so I would use them, no worries.

I see the issue not being water tight but in your case it is likely a non issue.

I suspect the MC4 connectors would not stay sealed very long if they are connected and disconnected often anyway?

Might be good to have a set so folks can see what the should use in a permanent installation, however.

Yeah, that's a very good reason I think.

Use the MC4s because in a demonstration situation, I can also demonstrate the MC4.

Makes sense.

I think if I lube them with antioxidation compound (which i do anyway) that will cut down on the wear on the seals that would occur from multiple connects/disconnects, , , maybe.

Yes I am with Tom. Use the power pole connectors but had some MC4's on hand for show and tell.
