Id be wanting to find the source of that in case it comes back to bite.

So what I think is going on is there is a wire in the negative side of the fan soldered in the board. I think if you take the cover off and look carefully around the left side and top and see if you see a bare metal wire sticking out of the circuit board towards the cover. If you find it you can take a pair of cutters and shorten it so its not an issue.
