For some reason some browsers interpret the Local App as just a file and try to display it. If you don't have Adobe Flash plugin installed for your version of Firefox it will probably not run the downloader correctly.

You should be able to right-click the direct link (below the loader icon in blue) and say "save as" and then run the file locally.

thanks Andrew I had to use that IE beast, man I really don't like it now... had to do the air thing twice and finally it caught but IE kept giving an error message that the site had caused a problem...???

WB, When you say "hooked up" did you connect Ethernet straight to the PC or through a router?

Westbranch

USB straight to PC.  Off Grid, No Inet connection available ...

Sorry, LA only works over Ethernet. USB won't work, I'm afraid.

Westbranch

Thanks Andrew,

OK, I will open the cover and connect an Ethernet wire...  what should I expect? ie re port 503 or?
does it auto-detect?

So the USB is for MyMidnite only? or can it be used for something else?

The USB cable is for updates to firmware and some data can be gathered over it.

The default port is 502 but the Local App auto detects the Classc(s)

Hope that helps.

tom, shouldn't my Netbook have indicated that 'new device' was found then?
That is the strange part at this point.
FW upgrade is needed too, so I will need the USB to work  also. right?

Sorry, I don't do Windows so not sure what it could or should do.

Ubuntu Linux recognizes the Classic as a serial device with no problems. Usually  /dev/ttyACM0 for those wondering.

Windows does weird things with ports and I think the Midnite stuff expects #8 ?

Sorry I can't be more helpful.

WB,

In my attempts windows 7 and 8 do recognize Classic or kid on USB port when plugged in. The Classic is recognized as serial and the kid as a removable hard drive. Unplugging and reconnecting should cause icon to be removed then restored when cc is plugged in.  To upgrade Classic firmware you need to install a com8 driver for the USB. with that driver installed copy the firmware file to the Classic.

ASFIK. The USB port is only for firmware upgrade and data out. The Ethernet port is used for programming and data logs, local control panel and MyMidNite and other control processes.

That said, I hate windows.......love my iPad

td

AHA! The light just flashed on!    Win7 does not recognize Classic until com8 driver is installed.......normally in a windows setup com ports are not redirected to USB so MidNite wrote the com8 driver to accomplish this!   And I am trying to unprogram my brain from winders.

Today I tried to connect again to my 2 classics.
#4592 connected up like  a dream, .... other than the ~ 2minute wait for it to handshake with my Netbook and then show on the screen.

#647 was a different beast.  No  luck connecting though the Netbook LApp 'saw' the Address but not able to connect.
So i reset the IP address the same as #4792 and had to restart the Netbook to finally get the LA to report on #647.

I did find that the BTS connection on the Classic was not making contact all the time. I had to push the cable into the socket hard and not move it to maintain the Temp to show on the LA.

Is there a way to fix this issue, easily ?

You are not having much luck with this  :D
Are you sure the app actually did see the #647 ?  If you have the static ip address for this Classic defined in the App's configuration list then the App will try to connect to that ip number even if #647 itself is not connecting.

Try this..
Remove any static ip address you have defined in the local app connection list.
Tick the box to automatically find Classics.
Make sure the actual IP addresses in Classics only have the last numbers different.
eg  192.168.1.115  for Classic #647
      192.168.1.116  for Classic #4792
your laptop should be in the same network but a different last number
eg  192.168.1.100

mask in both Classics should be 255.255.255.0, also in laptop.
Leave the dns numbers empty.

Check cables from Classics to hub are good and hub to laptop is good.

Start local app and wait until App finds the two Classics at different IP numbers.
If one is not found then wiring is dud or hub port is dud or loose connection.

Sorry if this has stated the obvious but thought it may be worth repeating.

thanks DGD, I will try some of that.  I have been thinking it is some remnant in memory (somewhere) that is the cause since I was able to connect if I renamed #647 to #4592 's address.

Will also total shutdown each time, not just LA

No HUB in system , I don't have one so it is direct connect to one or the other.
Each Classic is on a separate bank. Will swap cables to be sure.

ps Yes Addresses were unique 22 and 33.
Laptop is 192.168.1.100 coincidentally,
mask is 255.255.255.0,
No DNS
