MAX Watts for The KID?

Morning All -

In reviewing the specs for this unit, I see max input volts, but I do not see a MAX watts listing anywhere.  On a 12V system, what are the max watts limits for The KID?  Anyone know?  Looking to figure how many 260 watt panels can go on one KID with a 12VDC AGM.

I saw one store mention two 72 cell panels, or three 60 cell panels for a 48VDC system, but that isn't much help.

Anyone guide me to my answer?  Thanks for the assistance!

JAS;

I think the limit is rated in amps. 30 amps to the battery, I believe. The rest is just math. 30X12= 360 Watts etc. You may be able to exceed that occasionally short term but the output fuse is 30 amps.

Do NOT mistake me for any kind of "expert".

You might be able to put more watts in than the max out since the controller will limit the output  - the extra watts in won't matter.

The Kid has been used with a 24v  battery as the input voltage to step down to 12v battery charging and that would be well above the 30 amp equivalent input watts.  .

Hi JAS,

To make things real easy,  MidNite has great String Sizing Tools -- one for the Classic and one for the KID.

Here is the Sizer for the KID:

Thank you Vic...I am not sure how I missed that.  I found it for the Classics, but not The KID.  Thanks for the directions.

Seems two 260 watt panels are JUST over the edge on a 12V system....dangit...

JASPak

One more question if anyone comes back here...The sizing tool says maximum allowable wattage is at 432.  So, we all know that two 260 watt panels will not produce 432 watts...maybe I will see 400...maybe...

Could I still do this with a KID, or should just suck it up and go with a Classic 150?

Halfcrazy

The Kid will be fine. You can grossly overload the kid with PV and it will simply put out 30 amps.

Good to know and I appreciate the help everyone!!

I run 585 watts, over 30 amps mid day, no problem, my window of solar gain is just bigger as more hours of the day
