Connecting Hawke's Bay to BMS

Hello,

Trying to connect a Hawke's Bay to a Batrium BMS. I've snooped around the forum have have most the answers but was hoping someone could check that i'm on the right track and fill in the gaps where I'm a bit confused.

So my understanding is the BMS needs to use Plyontech Protocol to be able to connect (Batrium has that option) I also believe that the Hawke's Bay would use Plyontech LV vs Plyontech HV?

As for the physical connection, using a RJ45 ethernet cable to plug into the charge controller with the following wires to connect to the BMS

Solid Blue    Can L
Blue White    Can H
Green White   Ground

Does it make a difference as to where the ethernet cable plugs in? Into the Display, or into the CANBUS port on the Hawkes Bay itself? And where should the terminator plug be located? The only things connected in the CANBUS would be the BMS and the Hawkes Bay.

Finally is there any specific programing steps, modes, or advanced settings that need to be inputted, or does the unit simply senses the input and reacts accordingly

Sorry if this has already been explained elsewhere.

Thanks for any help in advance

Cheers

Paul

Hi Paul, welcome to the forum.  Think I can answer a couple of your questions.  The CanBus cable requires Pin 4 HIGH & Pin 5 LOW.  A 'standard' rj45 end can be color code wired differently, in an A or B standard, so talking color of wire might get you different results depending on what 'standard' you have in your hand.  As far as the actual CanBus plug, doesn't matter if you connect the rg45 to either the HB or MNGP2, they are on the same bus.  For the terminator, if you have 2 CanBus connectors on a device and only 1 is in use, terminate the empty plug.  Very simple.

As far as which Pylontech language to use, I can't help you with that one :(. I didn't know there were 2 different options and MNS just says if your battery speaks Pylontech, you're good to go.  For what it's worth, I use Pytes V5 batteries, they speak Pylontech out of the box without any adjustments to the DIP switches on the battery, and they work perfectly with Hawkes Bay & Rosie.  If you can verify which Pylontech version Pytes uses, you'll know which one Midnite uses!

Good luck with your system :)

Hi Dave,

Thank you for the help. Sari to ask another question, but to make sure pin 4 - 5 is counting from left to right with the clip on the connector facing away correct?

Cheers
