Whilst sick i built a new silverlake desktop box, and trialed W7,W10, and various linuxes, and hands down Mint was the best for my brain. Theres only three software packages i miss, photoshop, autocad, and abby finereader, but dual boot W7 solves that.

And in case you need some reasons to avoid W10 try this for size:

zoneblue,

Had read and heard that Win7 and up versions of Microsoft's OSes were total spies,  and getting ever-worse via "updates",  but had no idea just how bad they are.

Thanks for that Link.

Is the Mac OC on a Mac computer much,  or any different than Win7 and up??

Would not look forward to learning to use Linux ...   but may need to.

Thanks,   Vic

I keep hearing good things about Mint, I will be getting an Linux box in any case

OS X is way more user freindly than newer version of Windows , I like it a lot more than any windows post XT. , but like all Apple products......do it their way or no way

End line I will end up with an Apple laptop for Internet,  iPad for communicator, windows XP notebook for midnite upgrades only and multi boot tower with the real stuff on it.....Linux and CPM114.....a.k.a. Novell DOS 7......with pharlap extensions and autocad.....and win98se

Ok the OS on this Mac is way too limited for what I need it to do, someone has corrupted it to the point that any cd inserted into the only drive that it has will not be read or recognized.....it will not play brand new music CD when inserted in drive, it checked the label ,then went online and downloaded a mp3 version of the CD I had in the drive.  I'm dumbfounded, not what I need

Ok again it's a MacBook 6.1  laptop , no floppy,  cd drive only, no external monitor or keyboard, 2 times 2 gb memory sticks and 500 gb hard drive. 2.2ghz, dual core processor

I want a reliable Linux that will run on this laptop, not for upgrades,  for communicating on web, downloading software, drivers, text files, etc.

Mac OSX is based on BSD UNIX.  So, you already have unix on it.   Play with that and it already works.
