Blank dark screen after 2096 firmware update

So I uploaded the new updater to the website that will stop the black screen of death on windows 10, or at least engineering tells me it will

Awesome.  I can boot with a live CD,  update firmware, and then reboot back to windows 8.1   I hope.  That's my intent, I hope I don't have to download a boatload of exotic library and patches each time I boot from a CD
